PEG
PEG Africa is a leader in deploying and financing solar to households and SMEs in West Africa. Via its PAYG financing model, it enables customers to replace their perpetual spending on poor-quality polluting fuels such as kerosene and diesel with solar energy. PEG is currently serving hundreds of thousands of daily users in Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Senegal and Mali, and has recently expanded its capabilities to include solar water irrigation and bigger solar power systems for SMEs.
People in the communities served by PEG Africa spend up to 30% of their incomes on poor quality, polluting fuels like kerosene, candles and batteries, and often have to travel many miles simply to charge their mobile phones. PEG Africa's solar solutions power lighting, phone charging, radios, TVs and fans – the perfect answer for an off-grid home plagued by expensive, unsafe, and inconsistent access to power. PEG Africa started piloting solar pumps in 2019, and now makes them available in three of its markets. Using the same approach as with its solar home systems, PEG Africa finances solar water pumps for smallholder farmers, livestock and poultry owners, and community drinking water over a period of up to 18 months. The company has deployed 0.5MW of solar water pumps, and expects to triple that in 2021.
