Cold Sail was founded to service the fishing industry and produce special tarpaulins. Product production has increased to include a wide range of products including sports and playground equipment. The company piloted a project important for climate adaptation through a NDF and NEFCO financed project to pilot inexpensive and mobile flood barriers - Cold Flood Barriers.

This project aimed to help areas projected to be heavily impacted by sea level rise, increased instances of extreme weather, increased precipitation, and flooding due to climate change. As an alternative to sand bags, which are labour intensive and time consuming, the Cold Flood Prevention Barrier are large PVC bags which can easily be connected to each other and then rolled out and filled with water to create a barrier to protect roads, buildings and critical infrastructure from flood waters. The barriers are reusable, which the current method of sand bags are not, making them a more sustainable and effective long term solution.
